Conception at Billings Clinic
Dynamic Regrouping is conceived and rendered into an automated process at Billings Clinic. The premise: providers want a patient's story through the perspective of their specialty, not a chronological dump of every chart entry.
2013
Patent filed
Patent filed July 9, 2013 once it was clear this was a novel approach to peering into a patient chart and displaying the information.
2014
Public debut
Public debut at the Cerner Physician Conference under the banner "Every patient's EHR tells a story… if you know where to look." Wins the conference's Mpage Idol competition.

US Patent 10,437,844 issued
One of two broad patents covering the regrouping approach. Continued expansion into additional categorical areas of the chart.

Conceptual Basis
Providers want a story, through the lens of their profession.
They want the care they’ve rendered, the care their partners have rendered, and the work of related specialties they typically coordinate with, for that specific clinical circumstance. And sometimes they want to flex the view to see how another specialty sees the same patient.
Static renderings (chronological, by encounter, even by specialty alone) don’t deliver that. Regrouping does. The result is continuity of care, compliance with billing regulations, and less time per patient.
